Long Arm Machine Rental is back!
Not ready to purchase? Try renting the machine to quilt your quilts!
Rental Rate is $25.00 per hour
Rental rate includes instruction and assistance during your rental time. Rental Rate can be split into 1/2 hour increments. Rental starts from the time you start pinning your backing fabric and ends when you are off the machine. Renters must supply or purchase their own fabric, batting and thread. First time renters should bring 2 yards of scrap fabric (muslin) to practice (1 yard for the top and 1 yard for the backing) with ample batting.
Loading and unloading your quilt does take a little time (figure 30 minutes when you are first renting), so be sure to calculate that into your rental time.
There is no class to attend. Someone will work with you when you come in to rent and help you through the long-arm quilting process. Our staff will handle machine threading plus bobbin winding and changes.
Making Reservations
Call the store at 585-544-4110 to schedule your appointment.
Minimum 24 hour notice is appreciated for a cancellation. Payment is due at the end of your rental. If you are not finished with your quilt at the end of your rental time or at store closing, you can unload the quilt and return a different day to reload and finish.
Please keep in mind that these are commercial machines. For insurance purposes, children will not be allowed in the room or allowed to operate the machines. The minimum age for anyone to operate the machines is 18 years old.
The long arm room is a separate, large room in the back of our store. You will have privacy from normal store traffic; however, there are five machines in the room for rental. Please be courteous of other renters who don’t want to chat while they are quilting.
The machines are all equipped with stitch regulators for consistent, even stitching. They are also set on 12’ frames so king size quilts can be done with ease. The throat sizes of the machines range from 18” to 26”.
We recommend that you mention the size of your quilt when you call so enough time is reserved to complete the quilting during your scheduled time.
Basic Tips for Renters
Backing fabric and batting should be at least 6” - 8” longer and wider than your quilt top. Be sure to press your backing fabric and quilt top before your scheduled rental time—seams not pressed properly (on stitch line) will have a small “fold” or pleat which can be caught on the hopping foot of the machine.
Before arriving to rent, have an idea of how you intend to quilt your quilt. Time spent in the store getting opinions will only shorten the time you have on the machine. Plan ahead so you can focus on doing a good job. Practice drawing your pattern on paper with a pen, being sure not to lift the pen.
Use good quality thread in the machines. Quilting the top yourself is enough of a savings, don’t skimp when it comes to thread. We recommend several brands and carry them in the store as well, don’t waste your rent time rethreading because you had a 50% off coupon.
