Become Fashionable and Aware of Ovarian Cancer
Our dear friend and fellow sewing and embroidery enthusiast, Zella Scheg, was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer a few months ago. After surgery, chemotherapy and with the strength and support given by her husband Mike (plus family and friends), she is a remarkable survivor. While enduring her medical nightmare, she was overwhelmed to receive a Comfort Bag through the efforts of Erna's Hope, a local movement to educate women about Ovarian Cancer and raise awareness to the illness.
As we expected, cancer didn't slow down Zella. She started volunteering her time with Erna's Hope assembling Comfort bags before she was even done with her chemotherapy treatments. Then, she used her contacts (Jackie) to set up a place at the store counter to sell the beaded Ovarian Cancer Awareness bracelets, helping to raise the money needed to make the comfort bags given to newly diagnosed patients.
Be sure to check out the bracelets the next time you are in the store. They cost $8.00 each, payable by cash or check only (checks to be made payable to Erna's Hope, Inc.). For more information about Erna's Hope or to see how you can help, call Kathleen Stellrecht at (585) 865-6941.
Long Arm Quilting Machine Rental
Rentals started on time as anticipated and are going very well. Reservations can be made by calling the main phone line (544-4110) during normal business hours. The rental rate is $15 per hour for machine use which includes instruction and assistance during your rental time. The rental rate can be split into 1/2 hour increments. Renters must supply their own fabric, batting and thread. First time renters should bring 2 yards of scrap fabric (or muslin) to practice (1 yd for top and 1 yd for the backing) with ample batting. The machines being used for rental are the HandiQuilter HQSixteen machines. They are lighter in weight to move around, equipped with stitch regulators for consistent, even stitching and set on 10' frames. The 16" throat of the machine allows you to comfortably quilt a 12" block or pantograph. Anti-fatigue floor mats are on both sides of the machine, which is located in a separate room in the back of the store with a private bathroom. Feel free to contact the store for further information.
