Classes on Parade Preview Party!

Stop by on Saturday, January 17th to meet the teachers and take a closer look at the class samples for the winter schedule. Refreshments and special sales make this a fun event you won't want to miss! Parade starts at 10am and ends at 3pm - we'll see you there! Be sure to say a quick "Hello!" to teacher, author and award-winning quilter Michele M. Harer who will be teaching a 12-week course starting in February from her book "The Essential Guide to Practically Perfect Patchwork." Michele will be happy to sign any purchased copies of her book during the Preview Party.

Quilter's "Boot" Camp

Instruction - Jackie Lynn

Start and finish a 60"x72" quilt in three short days! You'll learn the basics of quilting, piece your quilt top, add borders properly and load your quilt top on one of our HQ16 long arm machines to machine quilt! We'll even cover binding application and have some fun along the way. The quilt pattern is super easy for the first time quilter, plus has a different twist to interest the more experienced quilter. So take a three-day break from housework and walk off with a completed quilt!

Wonderful One Fabric Quilts

As seen in many shops...Kerry's Big shirt is a loose fitting, button front, color-blocked tunic length shirt with dropped shoulders, patch pocket and contrasting neck band collar. Add embroidery or use batik fabrics for a more custom look. This shirt is easy to sew and makes a great addition to your wardrobe.

Practically Perfect Patchwork

Instructor - Michele M. Harer

Using Michele’s book, “The Essential Guide to Practically Perfect Patchwork,” students will learn easy and accurate construction tricks and techniques to stitch all types of seams found in traditional quilt blocks. Fabric choices and an introduction to tools needed to complete a first quilt will be presented in lesson one. Also during the first lesson students will learn to make Michele’s unique durable templates, which can be used with a rotary cutter! At the end of the sixth session, each student will possess a complete repertoire of patchwork sewing skills and will have completed enough blocks to make a full-size quilt. Six lessons follow which will teach the student how to turn the blocks into a quilt top, add easy mitered borders, layer batting, backing and pin baste, machine then hand quilt, and finally add binding and a label. By completing the 12 lessons, each student will be the proud creator of a finished quilt!

Long Arm Possibilities

Instruction - Discount Sewing Center staff

Join local professional long-arm quilter Merrilee MacWilliam and improve your skills in free-motion quilting! Create this sampler which utilizes a variety of free motion techniques that will easily become the basis of the long arm experience.

Topics discussed, drawn and practiced include:

quilting density continuous line

continuous curves faux and real feathers

chalk marking use of stencils and gadgets

Handouts/examples are provided as well as a drawing surface to practice designs before sewing. All techniques can be adjusted and tailored to fit the needs and "need to know" of students in the class.

Wedgeworks

It looks “sew” difficult…but it’s not. This stunning, spinning quilt can be made into a wall-hanging, as is our sample, or you can make 9-12 blocks for a quilt. The blocks are huge, so a full-size quilt is not out of the question. You will love this new technique – the possibilities are endless when you have the book (which is required).

Stack 'N Whack Basics

For those of you who have not made a Stack-N-Whack quilt yet, this is the place to start. In this one-day class, we will discuss the basic Stack-N-Whack method, including fabric selection, stacking and cutting the fabric, and piecing the blocks for your first Stack-N-Whack quilt. Choose from either the Basic Pinwheel or the Irish Star pattern. Basic quilting experience necessary as we will not be completing this quilt in class.

Quilt Get-Away Weekend 2009

How does a weekend away from responsibility sound? That's what we have planned in April. This will be our 4th annual Quilt Get-Away Weekend at Bristol Harbour Resort. Be pampered while you spend the entire weekend quilting with fellow quilters. Your gourmet meals will be prepared for you while you sew. Wine reception Friday night and free massages on Saturday. Work on the guided project or your own projects. Brochures for the weekend are now available at the store.
